Personalised Christmas Tree Ornaments
A great Christmas craft for children is to get them to make a paper or cardboard Christmas ornament with their own photo on it. Simply cut a large star shape, hole punch it and attach a ribbon for hanging. Then glue a photo to the centre. Children can colour it in and hang it on the Christmas tree.

Recycled Christmas Card Fridge Magnets
Do you have some nice-looking Christmas cards that you’d like to recycle? Cut out the best pictures or use the whole card to create annual fridge magnets. Glue small pieces of not-so-nice magnets to the back of the cards and allow to dry overnight.

Christmas Star Strings
These are great for children’s bedrooms and can be made out of old wrapping paper or aluminium foil that is glued onto cardboard and cut out in a star shape. Use a hole puncher to put holes in the top and attach them to a long string with ribbon. Alternatively attach them with pegs. String the lot across a kid’s bedroom for a festive appearance they will love to look at.

Recycling Broken Christmas Decorations Into A Diorama
If the hooks have come off and the ribbon has come out of your Christmas decorations, why not reuse them as Christmas ornaments on your mantelpiece or as a coffee table diorama? Glue any ornaments which don’t stand alone to a suitably coloured base (for example, a white paper plate) and create a Christmas scene the kids will enjoy. Dried flowers, desiccated coconut and many other base coverings will make it look more realistic.

Indoor Card Clothesline
Commercial Christmas card hangers can be annoying as they are not as portable and don’t hold many cards. If you want to display a multitude of Christmas cards and brighten up a room at the same time, try making a “clothesline” of Christmas cards using white, red or green wool or string. Peg the cards up in your lounge room and show off your season’s greetings! For extra attention to detail, you can paint or colour co-ordinated the pegs to match.

Christmas Window Decals
Christmas window decals can be purchased cheap and can add instant Christmas spirit to any room. Choose a big, empty window and clean it with a damp facewasher, followed by a dry teatowel. Apply the decals by making sure they are clean before pressing them firmly onto the window. The beauty of using Christmas decals is that if kept flat all year, they can be used many times over.

Tinsel It Up

A very flexible Christmas item that will dress up any room is Christmas tinsel. Drape it over the TV or computer, attach it to a light fitting, tie back curtains with it, throw it over a bookshelf or dresser; there’s no end to the decorating possibilities of this marvellously cheap stuff.

Back To Basics
Strategically place items that remind you of Christmas around the house, for example, a basketful of pinecones, any red/green/white furnishings, candles & candlesticks, a gingerbread house, a long sock or a bowl of nuts.

Miniature Christmas Trees
These are cheap to buy and are pretty effective if placed in prominent positions such as on top of coffee tables, speakers, microwaves, bedside tables etc.
